AFODEK: Agroforestry and Food Safety.

From 01/12/2012 to 30/11/2017

The AFODEK project aims to contribute to better food security and income for the people of Upper Katanga while limiting deforestation from charcoal production in the province. An agroforestry perimeter is planned for a productive, profitable and sustainable development of 2,000 hectares of degraded savanna woodland in the Kipushi territory. This 2,000 hectare development aims to settle 150 families of farmers in 12-hectare individual plots. At the same time, the 2,000 ha of degraded tree savannas are converted into agroforests, with intensified, diversified and sustainable agricultural and forestry production systems and a sequestered carbon monitoring system for future development.

GRET is providing technical assistance to support the establishment of the 150 farm managers, disseminating agroforestry techniques to other farmers and technicians from AGRIPEL and the Ministry of the Environment and allowing the CPP to resume activities of the agroforestry perimeter.
